Mission Statement
"It is the mission of United Church Preschool to provide a warm and
caring environment that nurtures each child socially, physically, and
cognitively through the combined efforts of teachers and parents." |
|
| |
 |
Creative Atmosphere
Each child is encouraged to express his or her
individuality through many multi-sensory experiences. The children enjoy play-doh, a sand
and water table, daily craft projects, easel painting, music, dramatic
play and cooking. |
Socialization
Preschool is an exciting time for children. They are beginning to use
words to express their thoughts and feelings, and they are also learning
how to make friends and get along with others. During free play, circle
time and gym, the children will be gently guided on how to share,
compromise, follow instructions, problem solve, take turns, stand in line,
be the leader, and speak in turn. |
|
| |
A Cooperative Program
"Cooperative" means giving you and your
child the opportunity to share his or her first school
experiences. You will be a part of your child's
interaction with others and meet their friends. Parents
participate in the classroom, assisting the teacher on a scheduled basis. It also means a voice in the school. At United Church Preschool,
parents and teachers make up the Board of Directors. |
|
| |
Gym Everyday
We have both indoor and outdoor gym
facilities to
foster large muscle coordination. Our equipment includes: fire engines, swings, big wheels,
slides, tricycles, a climbing apparatus, an outdoor sandbox, a balance
beam, tumbling mats and a parachute. |
 |
|
| |
 |
Field Trips
Field Trips to local points of
interest enhance your child's awareness of the natural world and of the people and places in his or her community.
Trips have included visits to: the Suffolk County Farm, the
Connetquot
River State Park, the Sayville Beach, the Long Island Science Center,
the Holtsville Ecology Center, the Sayville Fire Department, the Sayville
Public Library, local theater productions and shows at the Nassau
Coliseum. |

Classroom Setting
Our teaching staff is made up of three certified teachers who have over
30 years combined experience teaching young children. Classrooms are bright and cheerfully decorated making the environment playful and
inviting for the children. |
|
| |
Three-Year-Old Class
The three-year-old class is designed to teach basic readiness skills
through play and music. A safe and nurturing environment is provided to
promote personal growth, responsibility and independence. We encourage the
children to verbally express their needs and feelings and give them the opportunity to explore, discover, ask questions and take
initiative through everyday activities. Monthly themes and books are
introduced throughout the year. Learning is fun as we bake, sing, move
to music, and laugh and play on pajama day and beach day. |
|
| |
Four-Year-Old Class
In the four-year-old class, you will see your child grow as an individual
as well as be part of a group. The children will have opportunities to
play with blocks, paint at the easel, work on a puzzle, explore with play-doh, engage in dramatic play, utilize manipulative toys or work on an
arts and crafts project. During circle time, we sing songs, play
instruments, play and move to music, read a book, discuss the date,
observe the weather and say the Pledge of Allegiance. During Show
and Tell, the children will learn the letter of the week. We explore sound
recognition and enhance vocabulary with each letter. |
|
| |
Pre-K Class
The Pre-K Class follows the same basic curriculum as the four-year
class, however, the five-day program affords extra time in the classroom. With that time, we are
able to expand the basic curriculum with language enriched activities, hands-on learning experiences, math
readiness, and simple science activities. We cover alphabet recognition, letter recognition, letter
skills, number recognition, counting, and handwriting readiness skills. |
|
| |
Lunch Bunch
Our optional two-hour Lunch Bunch class is held once a week during
lunch time for the four-year-old and five-year-old children. Lunch Bunch
is a fun-filled learning adventure that provides an extended school day for
your child. Through the use of craft projects, drawing, painting, games,
books, and even cooking, your preschooler will be introduced to a
number of exciting topics. They will begin to learn facts about our solar
system and our planet, discover differences that exist in cultures around
the world, see the work of some well-known artists, play counting
games, recognize letter forms, and begin to write their names. |
