Summers
almost here……….time to get out and enjoy all the great
things that summer in Sayville has to offer! Before you and
your dog head out for summer fun, here are a few things to
consider:
SUMMER HEAT: Most people are aware that leaving a dog or
other pet in a locked car on a really hot sunny day is
dangerous. What they don’t always realize is that even
milder days can be dangerous as well! Leaving your pet in a
parked car for even a short period of time can be deadly.
Cars heat up very quickly -- even with the windows cracked.
If you can’t take your dog into your final destination,
please leave him home.
TRAVELING with your pet: Call ahead to see if pets are
allowed at your destination- If not, make arrangements for
day boarding in advance. (Many resort areas have facilities
designed just for travelers with pets) It’s also important
to be sure your pet is up to date with all vaccinations.
OUTDOOR FUN: Like people, dogs tend to spend a lot more time
outdoors in the summer, so it’s important that they have
access to shade and fresh cool water at all time. Dogs can
be like children, they hate to stop what they’re doing when
they’re having fun. Make sure your pet takes time out to
rest, preventing heat related illness.
WATER SAFETY: Not all dogs are good swimmers…. If you enjoy
boating with your dog, please consider protecting your pet
with a life preserver. In choppy water or a sudden storm,
this could save their life!
