Over 60 volunteers showed up to help build a new Food Pantry on the back of the Gillette House this past weekend.

The project was organized by Chris Bodkin. John Cox and his contractor crew volunteered their time. Lowe's Home Center donated all the construction materials and local restaurants provided lunches on Saturday and Sunday.

The volunteers included Bill Hoover, Chamber of Commerce President and Mark DeAngelis, owner of the West Sayville Boat Basin.

The Sayville Rotary Club had a strong showing and included Don Hester, Pam Raymond, Fred and Carolyn Leyboldt, Chestene Coverdale (who is also the Food Pantry Director) and Pat and Tony Brinkmann.

There were members from the Kiwanis Club and many other caring locals including Tom Cooley who not only swung a hammer but kept us all going with hot coffee.

There were many others who made the project possible.

Councilman Bodkin had organized the project to provide improved quarters for the Sayville Food Pantry which serves the needy in our community. The lunch was donated by the Sayville Inn.

Nancy Angermaier is shown helping with the sheathing. And you would have thought she was busy enough just keeping up with the Common Ground!
