The 16th Annual Earth Day
Festival was celebrate in Sayville at Gillette Park on May
6, 2006 and was sponsored by The Town of Islip Department of
Environmental Control and the Greater Sayville Chamber of
Commerce.
The celebration started at 11:00
a.m. with "Ding Ding the Clown with Wrap-it and Sort-it,
followed by the National Anthem performed by the Boy Scout
Troop #76. It continued with dance by Blue Spruce Cloggers,
American Songs performed by Sayville Middle School Magic
Group 8th Grade Vocal and Big Mike and the Blue Streak.
Christopher Bodkin, the Town of
Islip Councilman introduced of the Town of Islip Officials,
Pamela Green, Steven Flotteron, William Rowley, Virginia
Allen, Suffolk County Legislator, Bill Lindsay, the Sayville
of Chamber President, Bill Hoover, Earth Day poster contest
winners, The Common Ground, Nancy Angermaier, and the SWEEP
Club. The activities continued with Dae-Han Taekwon-Do
Karate school, Ken "The Rocket" Korb and the Red River Boys
Band, Ronald McDonald and music with Saul Goode. The
entertainment part of the festival ended with the Earth Day
Raffles.
The Town of Islip Office of
Recycling's mascots, Wrap-it and Sort-it, and Recycling staff answered
questions and distributed literature about good versus bad
WRAP.
KIC offered free T-shirt
tie-dyeing and Cans for Kids collected 5 cent redeemable
cans and plastic bottles. The Free Book Give-away and
Exchange and Seedling Planting was conducted by the Sayville
High School Sweep Club and Mrs. Maria Brown.
The Earth-friendly vendors were
located along Gillette Avenue and the animal exhibit was
available in Gillett Park.
