GIVE THE GIFT OF EDUCATION

Students from Sayville High School are on a quest to fund a trip to study in Costa Rica in April, 2006. This trip will allow students enrolled in Advanced Placement Environmental Science, Biology, Economics, and Spanish to supplement their classroom education with real-life experiences. Additionally, a “Technology Team” composed of advanced photography and multi-media students will be joining us to document the trip, create a website, produce a photo exhibit and 2007 calendar, and create a DVD for each student who participated in the Program. The trip is designed for field exploration of coastal lowlands, rainforest and cloud forest as well as freshwater and saltwater life zones. Students will participate in a rainforest restoration project, habitat for humanity project, play soccer with local students, and learn to salsa in a Sarapiqui village. Additionally, students will visit a banana plantation and coffee plantation to learn about sustainable resource use and sustainable development in conjunction with the country’s promotion of ecotourism. This approach to resource use, conservation, and education has allowed Costa Rica to be an exemplary model for the rest of the world to follow.
