Jewelers for Children, a
national organization supporting children’s charities,
recently announced the funding of
programs in the New York City area.
Through two of JFC’s legacy
charities, the Make-A-Wish Foundation® and the National
CASA Association, a local connection was made through the
granting of wishes for 11 children and the award of a $
25,000 grant to the New York City chapter of CASA to help
abused and neglected children.
Retailer jewelers, Marc
Solomon of Solomons Fine Jewelry and Kay Cameron of Kay
Cameron, Inc, in conjunction with the Make-A-Wish® chapter
of New York, the New York CASA program and the New York
State Jewelers Association organized a press event. The
event was held April 10, 2006 at Solomons Fine Jewelry
with Marc Solomon, Kay Cameron and Michael Steubing - a
wish dad - participating in the announcement.
“Jewelers for Children has
truly brought together the entire jewelry industry to help
children who are the victims of life-threatening abuse and
neglect. It’s exciting for all of us to be able to
participate in a such a worthy cause that benefits kids
right here in our own backyard.” Said Marc Solomon.
“It is an honor to be part of
such a fabulous organization like Jewelers for Children.
To be able to give children and families in need such a
gift is one of a kind feeling of the heart. It is truly a
privilege for our industry to be part of such a worthy
cause.” Said Kay Cameron.
“Jewelers for Children
sponsored 11 wishes in New York last year, and we’re
thrilled to be working with JFC and the local retail
jewelry community to help even more children experience
their fondest wish this year through the Make-A-Wish
Foundation®,” said Patricia Clemency, President & CEO,
Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Metro New York.
"Through our relationship with
the National CASA Association and the support received
from Jewelers for Children, our organization is able to
help sustain the "Babies Can't Wait"-a specialized,
court-based strategy for infants in the foster care
program and the domestic violence and adolescent
initiatives that will serve more than 1,400 children this
year in New York City" said Amy Feldman, Executive
Director with Court Appointed Special Advocates, Inc.
In 2006, the support from
Jewelers for Children will provide for more than 150
wishes to be granted through a partnership with
Make-A-Wish® and the Wish A State Program. The support
provided to National CASA will fund the Champions for
Abused Children program, which provides funding for CASA
to help approximately 1,000 abused and neglected children
around the United States.
Jewelers For Children was
founded in 1999 by the U.S. jewelry industry with the
mission of helping children in need. Since its inception,
JFC has donated over $18 million to programs benefiting
children whose lives have been affected by illness, abuse,
or neglect through charity partners St. Jude Children’s
Research Hospital, the Make-A-Wish Foundation®, the
Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation and the
National CASA Association. This nationwide success is due
to the continuing generosity of jewelry trade
organizations, jewelry and watch manufacturing companies,
jewelry retail stores, individual jewelry professionals,
and jewelry consumers.
The New York State Jewelers
Association (NYSJA) was formed in 1909 to foster, promote
and protect the welfare of jewelers in New York State.
With over 700 members from Montauk to Buffalo, the NYSJA
represents the top retailers, designers, suppliers and
manufacturers in the jewelry capital of the world-New
York. NYSJA is proud to support the efforts of Jewelers
for Children who have brought so much joy to many children
who might not otherwise see their wishes come true.
Since 1980, the Make-A-Wish
Foundation® has enriched the lives of children with
life-threatening medical conditions through its
wish-granting work. The Foundation's mission reflects the
life-changing impact that a Make-A-Wish® experience has on
children, families, referral sources, donors, sponsors,
and entire communities.
The National Court Appointed
Special Advocate (CASA) Association, together with its
network of state and local CASA programs, supports and
promotes the use of highly trained volunteer advocates to
change the lives of these children and help them to thrive
in safe, permanent homes.
