Sweet Water African Violet Society welcomed their 31st Annual African Violet Show – “Violets Bloom in the Orient.” The show was divided into two divisions Horticulture and Design.

The Horticulture exhibits included plants of African violets and other members of the extremely varied plant family Gesneriaceae in up to sixty different entry classes.

The Design classes were based on themes suggested by their show title. There were up to fourteen different design classes. There included interpretive flower arrangements, designs using entire African violet plants, and several types of miniature gardens featuring African violets.

The main purpose in having a show was to give more people a closer look at the beauty and amazing variety of African violets. Their show was judged on Saturday morning by nine visiting judges, all of whom were certified by the African Violet Society of America. The entries were judged according to a set AVSA scale of points. Having an AVSA sanctioned show challenged the participants to grow better plants, and expand the creativity in design. The society enjoys sharing their knowledge in all aspects of violet growing.
