On Monday, September 12, 2005 the Sayville Fire
Department sponsored a Community Blood Drive and the Long Island Blood
Services were on hand to help. It was an emergency blood drive for the Long
Island area where supplies were low before Hurricane Katrina.
There was a steady stream of people filling in forms waiting in line for a
physical and then waiting again for the blood donation. For some the wait paid
off and they were able to donate but others were turned away to
keep the blood donation safe. Blood
donated is used for Cancer patients, marrow
or organ transplant recipients, sickle cell
anemia or heart surgery patients and
automobile accident victims. Every drop of
blood donated can make a difference in
saving someone's life. To
