The Sayville Historical Society located at corner of Collins Avenue and Edwards Street, one block south of the Sayville Library held their Holiday Open House on November 26, 2005. This event has been taking place for close to 20 years and celebrates the traditions, food and music of the original settlers of Sayville and West Sayville, the English, Dutch, German and Czech.

The festively decorated Edwards Homestead, , was lit by luminaries along the paths taking you from one traditional house to the other.

In the homestead visitors were greeted by St. Nicholas while Sayville High School and Middle School students presented Holiday Music Then & Now. There was plenty of traditional cookies, brownies, pie and punch for everyone offered by traditionally dressed members of the Historical Society.

The Sayville Historical Society, organized August 7, 1944 and lead by Miss Clarissa Edwards for many years, has the purpose to inform and spark an interest in the History of Sayville and its surroundings and to galvanize historical research. Another objective of the Historical Society is the preservation of manuscripts, records, books as well as many articles on exhibit in the four buildings on the grounds of the Historical Society.

The exhibits are open for visiting to public from May to November or any time upon special request.

For more information on upcoming events or about the Sayville Historical Society contact: Constance Currie, Vice President Sayville Historical Society at constancec@optonline.net or call: 563-0186.
