The Suffolk
County National Bank hosted this year's
Women in Business Luncheon and Seminar at
Land's End restaurant in Sayville on
October 25, 2005. The event was organized by
Kathleen Gubitosi and Brenda Sujecki and was
free to all business women that wished to attend. The
luncheon was served in a friendly atmosphere
while ideas and business cards were
exchanged, reinforcing the power of
networking.
Following the
luncheon, there was a seminar that addressed
how to overcome the challenges and issues confronting
today's women in business.
The panel of
speakers was moderated by Susan V.B. O'Shea,
Director of Suffolk County national Bank,
Managing Director of AMK Realty and Partner
of O'Shea Properties. The guest speakers
were Adrienne Giannone, President, Edge
Electronics, Inc., Shirley Robinson Pippins,
Ed. D, President of Suffolk County Community
College, Nancy Burner, Esq. Elder Law,
Trusts and Estates and Deborah Wile Did,
President of the Executive Power Group.
Some of the
issues covered by the panel were: how they
got started, what, if any, obstacles did
they have to overcome, and what steps did
they take in starting their own business.
The necessity of
making a business plan was stressed by a
guest speaker from Small Business
Development Center from Stony Brook
University. The Suffolk County National Bank
addressed what banks are looking for when
requesting a business loan. The
distinguished panel continued by stressing
the importance of networking and the costs
of having their own business in regards to
"having it all," family, career
and personal time off. Topics like
certification and internet businesses and
child rearing and what resources are
available for people to start their own
business were also addressed before a
questions and answers session brought the
luncheon to a close.
Participants
came from all different locations on Long
Island. Medford, Hauppauge, Coram,
Bohemia and Bayport were only a few of the
towns represented by their business women.
Sayville's own Pamela Raymond of Sayville
Inn and Sue Byrnes and the Sue Byrnes Realty
employees were also there with questions and
remarks.
