The Apple
Festival sponsored by the Islip Town was
back bigger and better despite the one day
delay caused by the weather. On October 16,
2005 the rain stopped, the ground dried out
and the sun rolled in to welcome the crowds
at the festival. After long days of pouring
rain and some flooded basements, the
Sayvillites came out to shop for autumn
crafts, mums, pumpkins, beautiful wood
carvings and bushels of apples.
The Sayville
Fire Department volunteered their time
behind the apple themed booth selling many
varieties of apples, candy apples, cold
apple cider, corn stalks, gourds and
homemade chocolate chip cookies while the
"Southbound" band entertained the visitations
with country hits and classic rock.
The Sayville
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 433 Honor
Guard behind the camouflaged booth sold hot
dogs, pretzels, popcorn and drinks and ran a
Halloween fund raiser raffle for a
"Cooler of Cheer." Drawing for the
raffle will be held October 29, 2005.
Have- a heart- adopt-a pet, a non profit foundation that sponsors free animal adoption events locally at the Shoppes at Sun Lakes mall (corner N Sunrise Service Road and Broadway), was there encouraging the public to adopt a shelter pet save a life. October is National adopt a shelter dog month.
