On November 10 at Sayville High School, the
Sayville Golden Flashes hosted the Amityville Warriors in a
League III football quarterfinal. For the Warriors though,
it truly was an Amityville horror. Sayville (9-0) won
handily 48-8, with the lone Amityville score late in the
Sayville quarterback Zach Sirico was 7/10
passing for 135 yards, with three of those passes taken for
touchdowns. John Haggart ran for 86 yards on 13 carries as
well as catching a 41 yard touchdown pass from Sirico. Matt
Selts had 3 touchdowns and 61 running yards for Sayville.
The game started off slowly with each team
taking several penalties, but before long Sayville built a
28-0 that they took to halftime. Amityvilleís offense never
got the chance to get into any flow and they failed on a key
fourth down near midfield that led to Sayville taking over
and moving right down the field to score.
Once Sayville got on the scoreboard, they
never stopped. Matt Starr led the Sayville defense with four
tackles, an interception and a fumble recovery. Chipping in
on defense was Chris Belcher with a pick-six and Kevin
OíConnorís eight tackles. It was a very convincing playoff
win for Sayville, and next on the bracket is Huntington.
Best of luck to Sayville as they continue on
another excellent season.
