When it rains, it P.A.W.S., just like it did
this past Saturday, May 2, at Old Navy Clothing Store at
5175 Sunrise Hwy., Bohemia (www.oldnavy.gap.com).
P.A.W.S. (www.pawsrescue2007.com), a not-for-profit rescue
organization based out of Sayville, is not a shelter, but a
volunteer based rescue league for stray kittens and cats.
The volunteers rescue the strays then nurse them back to
health. When the animals are healthy and old enough they are
either spayed or neutered. Loving homes (or even loving
foster families) are the goal for each animal, and when they
are healthy enough they are adopted out to families through
a screening process.
You love cats, but can’t own one for some reason or another
(your landlord, allergies, etc.)? Well, don’t despair,
Sayville P.A.W.S. has the perfect solution – their
Adopt-A-Feline Program. You can email them at
PAWSadoptafeline@hotmail.com, for more detailed
information.
On Saturday, May 2, Old Navy (the big company with an even
bigger heart) joined with P.A.W.S. to raise awareness and
money for this compassionate and humane organization. For a
minimum $5 donation to P.A.W.S., each shopper received a 10%
store coupon for the day. Kittens and adult cats were
available for viewing and adoption, as well.
Arlene, the Old Navy store manager, put this first time
partnership together, however, it is not the first time Old
Navy has been involved in local community events. In doing
my research for this article, I logged on to their corporate
site (www.oldnavy.gap.com)
and was interested to learn that, “At Gap, Inc., social
responsibility is fundamental to who we are and how we
operate as a company.” I read through the Social
Responsibility site and saw this quote from a senior Vice
President, “Acting in an ethical way is not only the right
thing to do – it also unlocks new ways for us to do business
better.”
P.A.W.S., a volunteer, donation-funded animal rescue league
is based on and dedicated to social responsibility. P.A.W.S.
is not a shelter and implores the community to refrain from
abandoning unwanted pets on their doorstep.
Pet adoptions (for cats only) are held every Saturday from
12-3pm at 87 Foster Avenue in Sayville. As they are not a
shelter, as noted above, appointments are necessary if you
are interested in adopting a dog. If you would like to make
an appointment or if you have any questions you can email
them directly at
PAWSadoptafeline@hotmail.com.
Sayville P.A.W.S. is working on a plan for a fundraiser
event in July – it will be posted on the Event site of
www.Sayville.com when
final details are made available.
Special thanks to the Feline Foster Moms who were at Old
Navy on Saturday – Trudy, Jean & Lisa – it was a pleasure to
meet you all!
