The following story was written by one of the 3rd grade students in Mrs. Geraldine Batterberry’s Class, Cherry Avenue Elementary. “The Seven Wonders of Sassafras Springs” by Betty G. Birney was the inspiration behind the story.
Have you ever heard of the Seven Wonders of the World? Well, there are seven wonders in my town Sayville and I can prove it.
Ralph’s Italian Ices is the first wonder. I love this place because it has so many different flavors. Most of them are so good that it makes my mouth water. I like to ride my bike up there with my friends on a hot summer day.
The next wonder is Dunkin Donuts. My favorite kind of donut is marble frosted. On my birthday my mom goes there and gets donuts for my class.
Mother Goose Toys is the third wonder of Sayville. There are a lot of cool, interesting toys there that ToysRUs doesn’t have. You can even have a birthday party in the back. I went to one once when I was four and I had a lot of fun.
The Movie Theater in town is the fourth wonder in Sayville. It is so close to home and the tickets are cheap. I love to go there on a rainy day and eat popcorn and candy.
The fifth wonder is Sweet Mandarin. This is my favorite restaurant, my family likes to go too. We always sit at the Hibachi table and my favorite chef Henry cooks in front of us. He does really cool tricks and makes us laugh.
My house is the sixth wonder. I can’t even live in my house because my family is adding an extension. In a couple of months we will have five floors.
Last but not least, the Seventh Wonder of Sayville is Gail Harper’s music and art Studio. Mrs. Harper gives great piano lessons and is very nice. Sometimes I take art lessons there and paint cool pictures that my mom frames.
Hopefully, I’ve proved to you that there are seven wonders in Sayville. I think it’s a great place to live and my favorite place to be!
