The surprise attack by Japan
on United States Armed Forces at Pearl Harbor on the
Hawaiian Island of Oahu occurred 70 years ago on December
7th 1941, a date that will live in infamy. It's a date that
Joe and Paul Johnson remember each and every year since they
lost their dear brother Carl that fateful day.
The monument at the corner of Lakeland and Johnson Avenues in
Sayville most folks don't even notice as they drive by
each day, but it has a special meaning to the Johnson family.
Johnson Avenue was named to remember Carl who was the first
Sayville boy to die in World War II. Each year, at 11am, on
Pearl Harbor Day, the community of Sayville accompanied by
members of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 433 and
from the American Legion Smith-Wever Post 651 gather, say a
pray and lay a wreath to honor our fallen comrades.
So we say thank you to Carl Johnson and all the men and women
in uniform.... past, present and future.
God bless you.... and thank you.... and God bless America.

Remembering Carl Johnson each year are friends and relatives
including Joe and wife Joan Johnson and brother Paul
Johnson. |

Despite inclement weather members of the VFW Post 433 and
American Legion Post 651 joined Carl Johnson’s family to
remember him and those lost in the attack on Pearl Harbor 70
years ago on December 7th, 1941. |
